Spanish Automaker Tramontana Readying 876HP V12-Powered XTR Supercar

Tramontana, which most literally translates to "north wind," is also the name of the Spanish automaker responsible for the creation pictured above. Dubbed the XTR, the early sketches of this road legal track car take note from Ariel, KTM and Aspid among others makers. What really makes this particular track car extra special is that these crazy Spaniards want to shove an 876bhp (888PS) V12 underneath the hood. Crazy? Yes, but this isn't the first time Tramontana is placing an ungodly amount of horsepower into a car the weight of a large dog.
The former Tramontana R was good for 700bhp thanks to a twin-turbo V12 and only weighed in at around 3,000 lbs (1360 kg). This put the 0-60 mph (96km/h) time at 3.6 seconds and top speed at 214 mph (344 km/h).
The new XTR keeps the same shape as its predecessor, but the Mercedes sourced twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V12 will now be good for the aforementioned 876-horses
The XTR model will be launched by the end of 2012 with a base price of $514,000 (€420,000).

Did Porsche Pull the Sheets Off the Production Version of the 918 Spyder to a Select Few?

A new video circulating around the internet has some people suggesting that Porsche may have shown the final-production version of its 918 Spyder to future customers during an invitation-only event in New York. We cannot say for sure if it is indeed the production spec model, but the car seen here does sport some minor changes over the most recent prototypes caught on camera as well as the ones previewed in official shots such as the Martini Racing version.
Compared to the newest prototypes, the New York model gets similar alloy wheels to the concept, additional red side markers on the corners of the bumper (though these were also used on a previous test car), a vented engine lid, new mirrors with twin bars linking them to the doors and the same headlamp fixtures as the original study.
You can the watch the video, which includes shots of the 918 RSR Concept from the Detroit Motor Show, for yourself right past the break.

SSC Sending Off the Ultimate Aero With Special Edition XT

Little does everyone know, SSC North America (formerly Shelby Supercars) has continued production on their world record-breaking hypercar, the Ultimate Aero, for the past few years. With all SSC news coming in about the Tuatara lately, it's hard to forget the former fastest car in the world.

Now though, SSC says that the production of the Ultimate Aero has come to a close, and what better way to send it off than to release it into the special edition production line.
The 6.9-liter, twin-turbocharged, dual-intercooled, mid-engined V8 will produce a mind-blowing 1,300bhp at 6,800 rpm. All this power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed gearbox with paddle shifters.
Weighing in at only at only 2,800 lbs (1,270 kg), the XT can also produce an immense 1,004 lb-ft or torque, can reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in only 2.65 seconds and will continue on to a top speed of 273 mph (439 km/h).
Founder Jarod Shelby says that this final edition XT will complete the eight-year run of the Ultimate Aero and will be limited to only five models. Shelby also says that each one will contain an owner specific specialty paint scheme that will never be used in SSC production again.
Right now, no figures on price have been released, but we expect buyers to dish out a pretty penny for this mind-blowing machine.

2014 Mazda6 Station Wagon Makes its Video Debut

On Thursday, we told you that Mazda celebrated the start of production of the all-new mid-size '6' at its Hofu Plant No. 2 in Japan with a special ceremony that was attended by some 500 people including the brand's CEO, Takashi Yamanouchi, executives, employees and a representative of the Mazda Workers Union.
It wouldn't have been much of a deal if the automaker had offered us more pictures of the sedan and more importantly, if Mazda hadn't rolled out the new Station Wagon variant which we saw for the very first time.
In addition to the single image released on Thursday, Mazda has now shared a video of the event showing the Station Wagon model covered in leftover decorations from last Christmas as it enters the stage under the sounds of an unknown tune that brings back memory from the 1980s.
Mazda told us that this example of the Mazda6 Wagon was built to European specifications and powered by the firm's new SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine.
Thanks to i-ryuji for the tip!

Arrinera Redesigns and Renames its Supercar to the Very Pagani-like Sounding Hussarya

Polish startup Arrinera just can’t seem to make up its mind about its first production model that has been in the development stages since 2008.

The company that started out as Veno Automotive before changing its name to Arrinera has presented several iterations of its V8-powered supercar model over the years, with the styling of the first sketches and prototypes being reminiscent of the Lamborghini Reventon.
Today we received pictures of the latest redesign and the announcement that the car will be named Hussarya. The news comes not too long after it was announced that famed British car designer Lee Noble became a member of the board, as well as a shareholder for Arrinera Automotive S.A.
As much as Arrinera would like to convince us that the nameplate is purely derived from Poland'sHussar cavalry of the 16th to 18th century, we have few doubts in our mind that many readers will automatically make an association with the Pagani Huayra.
Fresh nameplate aside, the Hussarya features a revamped exterior and interior design, though we only get to see the outside of the car for now.
Compared to the previous A.H.1 prototype, the Hussarya ditches the scissor doors and gains conventional doors, a newly designed front bumper with different air inlets, revised side panels and air vents, a reshaped roofline and rear engine compartment plus a redesigned rear end with twin round tail lamps on both sides.
Arrinera also fitted the car with two retractable spoilers positioned on the inner-top side of the rear fenders, which deploy at an angle of 50 degrees at speeds beyond 150km/h (93mph) to assist in braking.
The car is powered by a General Motors-sourced and mid-mounted 6.2-liter V8 engine tweaked to produced 650-horses, for a zero to 100km/h (62mph) sprint time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 340km/h (211mph).
The Polish company said that sometime between this month and September 2012, it will unveil the "33 Series", which is a special edition version of the Hussarya with distinct styling features inside and out that will be produced in a limited number of 33 units.
Arrinera said that the regular Hussarya will become available for purchase "no earlier than at the end of 2013".

Lexus Talks us Around the Changes on the 2013 LS Sedan

While Lexus stopped short from announcing prices and a specific launch date, the Japanese carmaker has pretty much revealed everything else about its redesigned 2013 LS sedan that will go on sale in the States this fall.

However, if you prefer to hear what’s new about the LS from Lexus itself, the company released a video with Bill Camp from Lexus College that walks and talks us around the luxury sedan.
Camp puts the spotlight on the newly added F SPORT model that is based on the regular LS460 V8 (available in RWD and AWD configurations) adding exclusive styling features and chassis components to the mix for a sportier feeling.
The video tour of the LS can be found right below the break.

2013 Nissan Pathfinder SUV Fully Detailed Plus New Photos and Videos

Nissan has fully revealed the final production version of its all-new 2013 Pathfinder SUV, following the presentation of the Pathfinder Concept at the Detroit motor show in January and a first batch of teaser images earlier this week.
Continuing the back-and-forth between unibody constructions and truck-based frames, as the first generation of the Pathfinder (1985-1995) utilized a ladder-type frame while the second generation (1996-2004) a unibody platform and the third iteration (2005-2012) a truck frame, the new model returns to a passenger car-like unibody structure.
The Japanese carmaker says it made the shift again as truck-based SUV sales have declined steadily over the years with consumers preferring more fuel efficient and refined crossovers.
"It's no secret that the industry has shifted as gas prices have increased," says Al Castignetti, general manager of Nissan North America.
"But while traditional SUV customers are looking for improved fuel economy, they still demand a vehicle that can do all the things they need, like carrying seven people, towing, and providing the surefootedness in all conditions of a four-wheel drive," he adds.
The new platform, which is shared with the Infiniti JX crossover, helps shed 500 pounds (227 kg) of mass compared to the outgoing model, with the FWD model tipping the scales at 4,149 pounds (1,882 kg) and 4WD version at 4,290 pounds (1,946 kg).
Nissan states that the new Pathfinder offers a standard towing capacity of 5,000 pounds (2,268 kg).
As we anticipated, the 2013 model uses the same 3.5-liter V6 engine found in the new Infiniti JX, matched to a next-generation Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). In this application, the V6 produces 260-horsepower.
The Pathfinder is offered in FWD and 4WD configurations, with the latter featuring ALL-MODE 4x4-i system with selectable 2WD, Auto or 4WD modes.
Thanks to the lighter platform and the new powertrain, the 2013 Pathfinder's fuel economy has improved more than 30 percent over that of the 2012 model with the FWD version returning an EPA-estimated 20mpg city, 26mpg highway and 22mpg combined, and the 4WD model, 19mpg city, 25mpg highway and 21mpg combined.
Nissan claims that the new model features a more upscale exterior and interior – though for some reason, the Japanese company skimped on the pictures of the dashboard that we don't get to see as a whole [Update: we found a third video that gives us a better look at the interior].
Inside, it's worth mentioning that the 2013 Pathfinder has room for seven passengers in three rows of seats equipped with the so-called "EZ Flex Seating System with LATCH AND GLIDE", which the company says is an industry first 2nd row tip-up seat for use with a child safety seat.
Among other amenities offered on the new Pathfinder are the leather appointed seats, heated steering wheel, heated and cooled front seats, programmable Nissan Intelligent Key, Nissan Navigation System, Bluetooth Hands-free Phone System, 13-speaker Bose Premium Audio system, Satellite Radio, Dual-Zone Climate Control, RearView Monitor, remote engine start and tri-zone entertainment system.
The 2013 Pathfinder will go on sale in the States this fall with pricing to be released closer to launch.

Facebook Users-Specified Citroën C1 Connexion Goes on Sales in the UK

The first production car in the UK to be specifiedby viewers via a Facebook App, the Citroën C1 Connexion, is on sale now with the three-door model priced at £9,495 and the five-door version at £9,845.

Citroën wants to make the crowdsourced C1 Connexion sound more special than it really is, as the differences over the C1 VTR are limited to the choice of colors and some additional equipment features.
The French carmaker says that 24,000 configurations were submitted through its Facebook Page with the final design created from the most popular configuration. According to the company, a Citroën Facebook fan designed the name badge that features on the car.
The Connexion is based on the 65.7mpg (UK) C1 1.0i 68 manual in VTR trim adding 14-inch alloy wheels, dark tinted rear windows, a Caldera Black metallic paint and Scarlet Red exterior and interior detailing.
Citroën says that the C1 Connexion is priced at £500 more than the VTR version on which it is based, but is specified with "well over £925 of additional equipment".

All-New Volkswagen Golf Mk7 to be Revealed in Berlin on September 4

So we know that series production of the seventh generation of the Volkswagen Golf will begin in early August and that the compact hatchback will receive its public premiere at the 2012 Paris Motor Show (September 29 to October 13) before it goes on sale across Europe in November.

Today, we can add one more piece to the puzzle as German news daily Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung (sub. req.) reported that the new iteration of the Volkswagen Group's most popular nameplate will celebrate its world premiere at a special event organized at Berlin's Neue Nationalgalerie (New National Gallery) of modern art on September 4.
This means that Volkswagen will most likely release the first official pictures and specifications of the Golf Mk7 for the European market on the same day, so mark your calender...
While spy shots suggest that the exterior styling of the next Golf will be an evolution of the current model's design, it's all new underneath as the compact model will ride on the VW Group's modular transverse matrix (MQB) platform shared with the latest generations of the Audi A3 and Seat Leon (with more models to be added down the line).
For its motivation, the European model will make use of a range of turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines including a small-displacement 1.2-liter TSI and a 1.4-litre TSI petrol equipped with VW's ACT (active cylinder management) system that shuts down cylinders two and three to improve fuel economy under certain conditions.
Sitting at the top of the range will be a 2.0-liter TSI powering the GTI and the 'R' AWD sport models that will follow next year, while the new Golf will also debut hybrid powertrains with gasoline- and diesel-electric powertrains as well as a pure-electric variant.
'Obrigado' Bruno R. for the Golf tip!

700HP Twin-Charged Ariel Atom Makes the Bugatti Veyron Look Tame

We'll be honest, the Ariel Atom is a favorite of ours. It's good looking, powerful and can put some bugs in your teeth.
Strangely though, we've never had the thought of what kind of automotive monstrosity the Atom would be if it had even more power. Thankfully, there are people in this world crazier than we are.
DDMWorks out of South Carolina has decided that the standard Atom needed a heluva lot more power, so they went ahead and added both a turbocharger and supercharger to the mix creating the monster you see in these pictures.
With some added work to the engine including Darton mid sleeves, ceramic-coated Wiseco pistons, H-beam Carrillo rods and ARP hardware, the heavily modified Ecotec 2.0L engine is now good for an earth moving 700bhp.
Weighing in at only 1,450 lbs (657kg), this puts the power to weight ratio of 2.07 lbs (1kg) per pony lower than most all million-dollar machines, including the Bugatti Veyron.
To manage all this newfound power, DDMWorks threw on a few extra inches in the rear with new 275-mm wide tires and custom 17x9 wheels.
The full Atom upgrade comes complete with three engine options of 450bhp, 575bhp or for the brave, the 700bhp flagship.

2013 VW Amarok Pickup Truck Benefits from a More Powerful Diesel and Added Features

Coinciding with the start of production of all double cab Amaroks for the European and Russian markets at VW's Hanover plant in Germany, the automaker has made a raft of changes for the 2013 model year version of its midsize pickup truck.

The updated Amarok gains an enhanced diesel powertrain along with new convenience features, an increased trailer load and an extended 12 warranty against corrosion perforation.
Under the hood, engine performance of the manual gearbox equipped 2.0-liter BiTurbo TDI diesel unit has been boosted from 161hp (163PS) to 177hp (180PS) bringing it to the same output level as the automatic transmission versions. VW claims that fuel economy and CO2 emissions remain unchanged.
Furthermore, after becoming available in the automatic version, VW's BlueMotion Technology that includes start/stop, regenerative braking and tires with optimized rolling, is now offered with the 121hp (122PS) and 177hp (180PS) manual Amarok in conjunction with the rear-wheel drive system or the permanent four-wheel drive version.
Volkswagen says the BlueMotion Technology package helps save up 0.5 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres, with the 121hp Amarok RWD rated at 6.8lt/100km (equal to 34.6mpg US or 41.5mpg UK) and 179 g/km of CO2.
For 2013, the maximum trailer weight for all four-wheel drive Amaroks with manual gearboxes is now 3 tonnes (6,614 lbs), while automatic models can tow up to 3.2 tonnes (7,055 lbs).
In addition, the redesigned tailgate can carry loads of up to 200kg (441 pounds) and can now be locked.
The German automaker has added several new features to the Amarok's equipment range including, but not limited to, a standard ParkPilot system in the Trendline and Highline models, an optional Light and Sight package with a rain sensor, automatic headlight control, follow me home function and an automatic anti-dazzle interior mirror, plus a new cornering light system.
VW said that prices for the 2013 Amarok start at €19,835 (net) for a 121hp single cab or €22,610 (net) for the same model with a double cab.

New Mercedes E300 BlueTEC Hybrid is Most Fuel Efficient E-Class to be Sold in the UK with 65.7mpg

Mercedes-Benz has announced UK pricing for its new E300 BlueTEC Hybrid model that is offered in both saloon and Estate body styles.
Available for order now, the E300 BlueTEC Hybrid Saloon is priced from £39,645.00 OTR while the Estate version starts at £41,435.00 OTR, with first deliveries set to start in November.
The brand with the star claims that the diesel-electric hybrid model is the most fuel efficient E-Class ever to be sold in the UK, capable of returning up to 65.7 mpg UK (54.7 mpg US or 4.2 lt/100km) on the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 109g/km for the saloon variant when fitted with 16-inch wheels (Estate: 62.8 mpg UK).
The hybrid version of the E-Class links a 2.1-liter four-cylinder diesel engine developing 201hp (204PS) and 500Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque to a 27hp (20kW) electric motor mounted within the 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission powered by a 19kW Lithium-ion battery.
According to the company, the hybrid system is "intricately packaged within the vehicle so as not to impact on the versatility or load capacity of the E-Class in any way."
Mercedes says that the sedan can accelerate from rest to 62 mph (100km/h) in 7.5-seconds (Estate: 7.8-seconds) before reaching a top speed of 150 mph (144 mph).
Standard equipment features for both body styles include 17-inch alloy wheels or 16-inch wheels as a no-cost option to achieve the lowest possible CO2 and economy figures, leather upholstery, Becker Map Pilot Navigation and LED daytime running lights.

Volkswagen Adds Automated Manual Gearbox Option to UK Market Up!

Buyers in Britain now have the option of ordering the Volkswagen Up! city car with a new automated manual gearbox (ASG).

Priced at £595, the five-speed semi-automatic transmission is available on both three- and five-door (60PS) Move up! and (75PS) High up! models, excluding the BlueMotion Technology versions.
The driver can use the ASG as a regular automatic or change gears up or down manually using the lever. Steering wheel paddle shift is not available on the up!.
Volkswagen says that the ASG tips the scales at 30kg (66 pounds), only three kilograms (6.6 lbs) more than the manual version, while offering improved fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions when compared with its manual counterpart.
In the European cycle, the Move Up! ASG returns a combined fuel economy of 64.2mpg UK (53.5mpg US or 4.4 lt/100km) compared to the manual gearbox model's 62.8mpg UK (52.3mpg US or 4.5lt/100km).
According to the German automaker, the Up! with ASG is available to order now, with first deliveries expected to start in October.

First Official Photo of 2014 Mazda6 Wagon, Production Begins in Japan

Only a week after the release of a series of pictures of the 2014 Mazda6 sedan, the automaker revealed the station wagon varianttoday during a special ceremony at the company's Hofu Plant No. 2, in Japan to commemorate the start of the production of the new mid-size model.
The estate version of the new Mazda6, which will probably not make it to North America, has a sleek profile thanks to a sloping roofline and a slanted tailgate design.
Mazda will produce both the sedan and station wagon body styles of its Honda Accord and VW Passat rival at the Japanese factory. The first vehicle to roll off the assembly line was a Mazda6 wagon built to European specifications and powered by the SKYACTIV-G 2.0 petrol engine.
In his speech, Mazda President and CEO Takashi Yamanouchi commented: "I am deeply moved that production of the third generation Mazda6, the flagship model of our new-generation vehicles, starts in such an important year for us."
He continued: "The new Mazda6 that starts rolling off the line today features both SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and KODO - Soul of Motion design. Its development represents the very best of our engineering capability and our uncompromising attention to detail."
The Japanese company said that it aims to build around 120,000 units of the Mazda6 per year at the Hofu Plant.
The Mazda6 sedan in Russian specification will debut at the Moscow International Automobile Salon on August 29, 2012, with the European spec saloon as well as the station wagon to premiere at the Paris Motor Show in late September.
Sales of the new Mazda6 will begin in Europe and Japan before the end of 2012, followed by other markets including Australia and North America at the beginning of 2013.

Mitsubishi Announces Launch Details for JDM Mirage Supermini

More than 9 months after the new Mirage made its world premiere at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show and following its sales launch in Thailand (where it is produced) earlier this year, Mitsubishi announced today that its affordable entry in the small car segment will go on sale in its home market of Japan on August 31, 2012.

Pricing for the five-door hatchback in Japan ranges from ¥998,000 to ¥1,288,000 (about $12,800 to $16,500 or €10,300 to €13,400).
Mitsubishi said it has been accepting orders for the new Mirage since June 26 and it has already received over 5,000 orders as of the end of July. The Japanese company has set a sales target of 30,000 units for the 2012 fiscal year.
In Japan, the 3,710 mm long, 1,665 mm wide and 1,490 mm tall Mirage will be offered in three trim levels with all models coming with a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder MIVEC gasoline engine coupled to a new version of the firm's CVT transmission driving the front wheels.
The two higher end trim grades ('M' and 'G') employ Eco Drive Assist and AS&G star-stop systems to return a fuel economy of 27.2 km/liter (equal to 64mpg US, 76.8mpg UK and 3.7lt/100km), allegedly making the Mirage the most fuel efficient non-hybrid gasoline car in Japan.
Mitsubishi said that it will roll out the Mirage in Europe, Australia and other regions later in the year. Company officials are also considering to offer the car in North America but a final decision has yet to be made.
